There are few families that are untouched by mental health disorders or substance abuse. Perhaps it's the grandfather who has lost the love of his life and whose grief remains inconsolable even after many seasons; the parents who worry every day about what's going to happen to their adult son who has schizophrenia; or the young mother who is has tormented memories of childhood abuse that are only held at bay when she is drinking or high on drugs. The suffering and pain of our family and friends is something that we all feel. We are in this together. Because mental disorders and substance abuse impact so many of us in so many ways, Apalachee Center seeks to include the family and the community in our approaches to treatment. Advances in treatment and new medications allow us to instill hope in our consumers, their families, and the community that recovery from mental illnesses and substance abuse are not just a possibility but an expectation. At Apalachee Center, we provide a treatment environment that is welcoming and instills a sense of hope and recovery. |
