Apalachee Center, Inc.

Mission Statement

It is the mission of Apalachee Center, Inc. to empower persons within our community to improve the quality of life for themselves and their families through the efficient and effective delivery of quality behavioral healthcare services.

Vision

It is the vision of Apalachee Center, Inc. to serve as an integral component of the community's healthcare system.

Treatment Philosophy

Each person's care and treatment will be provided through an interdisciplinary systems model of service delivery within the framework of a philosophy of recovery for adults and resiliency for children and adolescents, with recognition of each person's uniqueness and individuality.

Values

Recovery
The services provided by Apalachee Center for the adult SPMI target population are based upon a vision of recovery that is grounded by the idea that persons with psychiatric disabilities can adapt to and recover from their illness. Supporting each service recipient's personal recovery process in overcoming the negative impact of a psychiatric disability despite its continued presence is at the core of all tasks and services. The vision of recovery directs the process from assessment through treatment planning and service delivery.
Resiliency
The services provided by Apalachee Center for SED/EH children and adolescents are based upon a vision of resiliency that enhances each child's ability to rebound from life's adversities and enhance the skills and traits needed to maintain a positive lifestyle.
Empowerment
Apalachee Center shall give "official" authority to each person served in terms of his/her role as a consumer of disability services pursuant to a professional/recipient relationship based on equality and respect. Recognizing that all individuals have the potential to grow and develop, a range of opportunities is provided to allow persons served to explore their values, interests, and abilities, to develop the confidence needed to take the lead in their recovery, and to sustain their hope for a better future. The goal of service provision is to empower each person to live independently in the community.
Choice and Self-Determination
Persons have both the right and the ability to make choices in the domains of living, working, learning, and social activities, and to accept responsibility for their lives. Services are to be offered in an environment that creates a sense of self-worth and fosters success through investment in one's own decisions.
Culturally Competent Services
Apalachee Center shall acknowledge and incorporate variances in normative acceptable behaviors, beliefs, and values in determining an individual's mental wellness/illness and incorporating those variables into assessments and treatment. Services are to be offered in an environment that creates a sense of belonging and provides assistance for as long as needed. Paramount to the effective delivery of services and tasks is the recognition of the barriers, stigmas, and frustrations faced by persons with psychiatric disabilities. Their cultural barriers and struggles need to be recognized and mutually addressed.
Person-Centered Services
Services should focus on each individual's personal goals and strengths. Services are to be aimed at developing each person's assets and strengths, as well as assisting individuals in developing additional competencies. An overall goal is to maintain a sense of identity, dignity, self-esteem, and confidence. Services are to be individualized and person-centered, and involvement of the individual is to be sought in every aspect of his/her life.
Stakeholder Inclusion
Stakeholder, consumer, and family feedback is essential (1) to ensure their voices are heard and that people who need services have priority, (2) to evaluate the effectiveness of the current mental health services for people with severe and persistent mental illnesses, (3) to advocate for evidence-based, resiliency-/recovery-oriented services as the standard, not the exception, and (4) to monitor and evaluate service implementation and effectiveness.
Rights of Persons Served
Understanding, recognition, and assurance of each person's right to privacy, informed consent, treatment with dignity and respect, prompt, adequate, and appropriate treatment, treatment which is under the least restrictive conditions, non-discrimination, control of one's own money, and grievance processes are the foundation for provision of quality and effective, person-centered treatment.

Staff

Employees include psychiatrists, psychologists, nurse practitioners, social workers, counselors, addictions professionals, nurses, case managers, behaviorial specialists, and mental health assistants.

Fees

Payment for services is accepted from clients, most private insurance companies, Preferred Provider Organizations, CHAMPUS, Medicare and Medicaid. Required co-payments apply to some services and are based upon insurance company coverages and/or ability to pay (i.e. sliding fee scale). The State of Florida Department of Children & Families and local County Commisions provide some funding for designated programs to assist eligible clients in need.
